A Polyamorous Romantic Comedy In Space: Open Earth Out This Fall

by Christine Marie Attardo

This fall, Oni Press imprintLimerence Press, will release a new story from Sarah Mirk entitled, Open Earth, with art by the Eisner Award-nominated Kim & Kim team Eva Cabrera and Claudia Aguirre. For those of you who don’t know, Limerence Press was founded in 2016 to publish quality erotic and sex education comics. Open Earth continues in this tradition as it follows main character Rigo who is exploring new territory. After the collapse of Earth, Rigo spends her whole life on a small space station, but now she is stepping away from the rules of her parents and following her own path.

Creator Sarah Mirk talks about her inspiration for the story:

I had the idea for Open Earth in my head for a long time without telling anyone…It sounded too silly: a polyamorous romantic comedy set in space after the collapse of human civilization? But it’s about people figuring out what they want and finding the courage to communicate. It’s about deciding what lessons to learn from previous generations and what ways of living we have to create anew for ourselves.

I think this comic sounds really intriguing. I do love the art. It reminds me of a Lumberjanes type style. While I haven’t read much in the erotic-comic genre, I do think that what Limerence Press is doing is fantastic. I look forward to grabbing a copy when Open Earth releases September 26, 2018.
