This week the first issue of a new prestige-format miniseries from Valiant arrives in Britannia: Lost Eagles of Rome. The previous two series of Britannia have been a major success, as written by Peter Milligan, and he’s joined here by Robert Gill on art and Jose Villarubia and Diego Rodrigez on letters as well as Dave Sharpe on letters.
Covers on issue #1 are by Cary Nord, Brian Thies, and David Mack:
Britannia follows Antonius Axia, one of history’s first detectives tracking down mysteries at the behest of the rulers of Rome. In this new series, the Roman standard golden eagles that are carried by Roman legions are lost in the Germanic forest of Tottenwald, bringing shame to the Empire.
The mad emperor Nero has dispatched Antonius Axia, the empire’s finest “detectioner” and hero of Britannia, and Achillia, the sword-wielding champion of the gladiatorial arena, to reclaim his stolen relics at any cost.
But what began as a simple mission will soon become a terrifying journey into the dark heart of belief itself, as the isolated woodlands of Rome’s enemies reveal unseen dimensions…and the true power of the legion’s lost eagles threatens to consume any who would pursue them…
