It appears Spider-Man (Tom Holland) will be get some S.H.I.E.L.D. training while he’s far from home.
Vulture reports Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders will reprise their roles as ex-S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Nick Fury and Maria Hill in Spider-Man: Far From Home. The pair were last seen dealing with the fallout of events in Avengers: Infinity War and, well, things didn’t look too good for them in that moment. Prior to that, both Hill and Fury were mostly out of the action between the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron and Infinity War. While Hill supposedly works for Stark Industries, Fury has been “out in the cold” as he is presumed dead by the public since Captain America: The Winter Soldier. But maybe their inclusion in Far From Home suggests a change in their status?
The Fury character has been known to train Spider-Man at various times and in various animated series. Indeed, he would’ve been a natural fit as Peter’s mentor in Spider-Man: Homecoming if not for his own situation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) ably took his place in Homecoming and Infinity War.
Which also makes you wonder what Tony’s status will be by the time Spider-Man: Far From Home arrives on July 5th, 2019.
