The Tick’s Griffin Newman Laments Lack Of Show’s Presence At NYCC 2018

Amazon’s presence at New York Comic Con will be substantial. The Man in the High Castle, Lore, Good Omens, and even The Boys will each have spotlight panels of their own. But one Amazon show based on a comic book notably absent from the lineup is The Tick. One of the last Amazon series to emerge from the platform’s Pilot Season concept, the program stars Peter Serafinowicz as the titular superhero and Griffin Newman as his partner Arthur. And it’s Newman who pointed out the lack of the show at next month’s NYCC:

It is unclear why the show will not be part of Amazon’s convention schedule. The show was featured during their Comic-Con International: San Diego presentation with a behind-the-scenes video and showrunner Ben Edlund live and in-person. The video suggested production was just beginning back in July, so there should be more substantial material to show at NYCC. Perhaps the available resources left Amazon with the choice to beginning hyping The Boys over a proven success like The Tick even if Newman’s tone suggests something else. Then again, maybe he’s right on and Amazon chose not to allocate funds to bring the show’s cast and crew to New York for a specific reason.

Hopefully, it’s just down to the funds and scheduling. Better to highlight material coming in 2018 and completely new shows over a returning program loosely slotted in for 2019. But for those of you going to NYCC, it means you will be missing another chance to go inside Danger Boat.
