Superman Watch 2018 continues …
Since this morning’s shocking suggestion that Henry Cavill is leaving Superman behind to become The Witcher‘s Geralt of Rivia, a few interesting wrinkles have emerged. For one, Cavill’s agent Dany Garcia took to Twitter to ask fans to remain calm. She also mentioned “his cape is still in the closet” indicating Cavill’s high-flying days may not be over.
Be peaceful, the cape is still in his closet. @wbpictures has been and continues to be our partners as they evolve the DC Universe. Anticipate a WB statement later today.

Subsequently, Warner Bros. Pictures issued a statement declaring that “while no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films, we’ve always had great respect for and a great relationship with Henry Cavill, and that remains unchanged.” According to a Hollywood Reporter piece earlier today, negotiations between the actor and Warner Bros. for a Superman appearance in next April’s Shazam! broke down, indicating Cavil’s time as the Man of Steel may be at an end.
Adding fuel to the fire is Deadline‘s report that the studio has been eyeing Black Panther‘s Michael B. Jordan to replace Cavill as part of complete Superman re-think. The change would be dramatic and no doubt cause a lot of discussion about a very good actor playing a part traditionally played by white men. Of course, after mentioning Jordan, Deadline immediately changed course, suggesting Warner Bros’ primary concern is fast-tracking the upcoming Supergirl film in lieu of securing a new Man of Tomorrow.
Meanwhile, it seems Warner Bros. cannot prevent its DC film initiative from looking poorly managed as actors and directors continue to leave, their original schedule goes sideways, and spectators wonder what will happen next.
