Star Trek’s Short Treks Series To Debut In October

Star Trek: Discovery‘s second season will not debut until January, but CBS prepared for that gap by producing a series of Short Treks — five short films, essentially, which “delve deeper into the Star Trek: Discovery universe.” CBS also released a trailer for the limited series:

According to TVLine, Discovery‘s Ensign Tilly (Mary Wiseman) will star in the first of the Short Treks, “Runaway,” which sees her encountering an “unexpected visitor” aboard the ship. Subsequent episodes will be released monthly, with December’s “The Brightest Star” appearing to be the highlight. It features Commander Saru (Doug Jones) before he joined Starfleet to examine why he alone would choose to explore space. That sounds awesome. November’s “Calyspo” sees Aldis Hodge’s Craft waking up on a deserted ships while January’s “The Escape Artist” features the return of Rainn Wilson’s Harcourt Fenton Mudd. It all sounds like well-chosen stories, but I’ll be waiting patiently for Saru’s story.

Star Trek: Short Treks begins October 4th on CBS All Access.
