Anissa Claims Powers Are A Gift From God In Next Week’s Black Lighting

by Erik Amaya

Though the first episode of Black Lightning‘s second season took a hard look at the consequences of the Pierces’ action last season, there’s still plenty of debate about the powers Jefferson (Cress Williams) Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer (China Anne McClain) possess; especially as the issue of “Green Light Babies” becomes more and more pressing in Freeland. But as Anissa mentions in this preview of next week’s show, powers can be a gift from God.

Of course, Anissa’s view on the matter may be different as her abilities are allowing her to get things done. But for Jennifer, the powers are only isolating her from friends, family and the community. Maybe that’s why her lightning form is being realized with such beauty. It’s an interesting contrast and perfect for the character as she still considers this whole thing to be a curse. Maybe that’s something she can discuss in therapy when that finally starts.

Black Lightning airs Tuesdays on The CW.
