Nora West-Allen (Jessica Parker Kennedy) is here to stay. Well, at least she’s here to stay for a good while. And while her new living situation means The Flash gets a schway new set, it also means she’ll get to bond with her father, Barry Allen (Grant Gustin). And as this preview of next week’s show reveals, their bonding will also be an education; complete with file footage from old Flash adventures.
In a surprising turn, The Flash felt fresh and re-energized last night. Even if the Season 4 finale stuck the landing, there were so many bumps along the way that the lasting impression of last season is more negative than positive (even if it did give us the Elongated Man). But now with the story pivoting to Barry and Nora — and even the hooks set up for Nora and Iris’s (Candice Patton) relationship — the show seems to have found its way again. Other mysteries, like Ralph’s (Hartley Sawyer) slipping memory and Caitlin’s (Danielle Panabaker) father, will hopefully provide a nice diverse sets of stories this year.
Provided, of course, Cicada (Chris Klein) doesn’t ruin that like previous season-long big bads.
That said, there is also the possibly Thawne will make his way back to the show, what with that extended replay of his Season 1 pep talk with Barry. And if Cicada is something of a misdirect to hide Thawne’s reappearance, that’s something I could live with. Particularly if it gives the character stories more time to breathe.
The Flash airs Tuesdays on The CW.
