Paloma Faith Joins Epix’s Pennyworth

Pennyworth‘s Alfred and Thomas will have to contend with Paloma Faith in the upcoming Epix series.

Deadline reports the UK pop star will appear in the series as Bet Sykes, a “spirited, sadistic and sharp-tongued villain” in the Batman prequel series. She joins actors Jack Bannon and Ben Aldridge. Bannon will play a younger version of Batman’s most stalwart companion. But in the ten-episode first season of Pennyworth, audiences will see Alfred as a former SAS solider who goes to work for Wayne (Aldridge) in the 1960s. Presumably, the series will explore something not really covered since Alfred’s military origins solidified — why Thomas Wayne would entrust his boy to a man who is ostensibly his butler.

And in covering the beginnings of their bond, the series will also explore an Alfred who is trying to “reconcile the kind-hearted boy he used to be with the cold, calculated killer he was forced to become.”

While not set in the fictional reality as Gotham, that series’ executive producer and developer Bruno Heller is involved in Pennyworth and writing the pilot script. Gotham EP Danny Cannon was also said to be directing the pilot, but is unclear is this is still the case.

It is also still unclear whether or not we will meet Martha along the way.
