by James Ferguson

This November, the RISE Playhouse in Woonsocket, Rhode Island will be showing a special play tailor-made for comic book fans. Ditko is the story of noted comic book illustrator Steve Ditko, the man who co-created Spider-Man and Doctor Strange, not to mention several of DC’s silver age characters like Hawk & Dove, Shade the Changing Man, and The Creeper, plus The Question and Blue Beetle, just to name a few.

Written and directed by Lenny Schwartz, the play examines Ditko’s deep devotion to the work of Ayn Rand and how those beliefs consumed not just his work, but his life as well. Ditko passed away earlier this year, but never stopped working, despite disappearing from the spotlight.

The cast includes Derek Laurendeau, Geoff White, Emily Lamarre, Samantha Acampora, Nick Tvaroha, Dave Almeida,Tonia Klemp, Michael Capalbo, Christopher Ferreira, Mindy Britto, Jonah Coppolelli, Timothy DeLisle and Anne Wareham Bowman.

Ditko can be see at the RISE Playhouse at 142 Clinton St in Woonsocket, RI on November 8th, 9th, 10th, 15th, 16th, and 17th at 8 PM. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at smarttix.com or at the door.
