Ready To Rumble: Audrey Mok Covers Buffy The Vampire Slayer #2!

by Hannah Means Shannon

Today, we’re delighted to take part in Boom! Studios’ reveal of two new variant covers coming up for Buffy the Vampire Slayer #2 by Audrey Mok, whose work you may well know from Archie titles.

The second issue will debut in-stores February 13th, 2019, in a partnership between Boom! Studios and 20th Century Fox Consumer Products.

In the second issue of the new series, we’ll see Drusilla, the “self-proclaimed Mistress and her pet,” Spike, debuting and homing in on Buffy. Giles will also be around in full force, trying to teach Buffy about her role, but she’s less than enthused by his lessons.

Eisner Award nominated writer Jordie Bellaire (Redlands) and Russ Manning award winning artist Dan Mora (Klaus, Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers), along with series creator and story consultant Joss Whedon (Firefly, Marvel’s The Avengers, and more), will be bringing us the new series, which takes us back to Buffy’s roots.

Here are those covers!

For those who might be new to the property, Buffy The Vampire Slayer premiered on the WB Network on March 10th, 1997 and ran for seven seasons from 1997-2003, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar as “Buffy Summers.” Chosen to battle vampires, demons and other forces of darkness, Buffy is aided by a Watcher who guides and teaches her as she surrounds herself with a circle of friends called the “Scooby Gang.”

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #2 features a main cover by Mondo illustrator Matthew Taylor, along with covers by Kevin Wada (She-Hulk), Celia Lowenthal (Over The Garden Wall: Hollow Town), and Ryan Inzana (Ichiro).

Here are some of those previously revealed covers for issue #2:

Jeanine Schaefer, Executive Editor at Boom! Studios, says regarding Mok’s covers:

There’s no rest for the wicked when the sun goes down on Sunnydale each night – and unfortunately for Buffy, that means she’s probably going to be late trying to finish whatever homework she’s got on her plate. Audrey captures perfectly the juxtaposition of horror and modern pop in her covers, with a formidable monster…but with an even more formidable hero in our girl Buffy.

Print copies of Buffy the Vampire Slayer #2 will be available for sale on February 13th, 2019 exclusively at local comic book shops (use to find the nearest one) or at the Boom! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the Boom! Studios app.
