The King Of Fairies Searches For A Promise Child In Oberon From AfterShock Comics

by James Ferguson

AfterShock Comics has announced a new fantasy series coming in February from writer Ryan Parrott and artist Milos Slavkovic. Oberon, featuring letters from Charles Pritchett, follows the title character, the Lord of the Fairies as he’s betrayed by his people and exiled to Earth where he searches for a child prophesied to save the universe. He must manipulate her into his ultimate weapon if he hopes to reclaim his throne.

Writer Ryan Parrott says:

I grew up on classic fantasy and fairy tales so I’ve always been on the lookout for a story that could subvert some of the standard settings and characters — and more accurately mirror our modern world — where heroes and villains are sometimes interchangeable.

Oberon plays with some of the tropes of the fantasy genre. For example, in most cases there’s a knowledgeable guide that helps the bright-eyed and bushy-tailed characters through the magical world. In Oberon, that guide is the villain. Imagine Harry Potter being introduced to magic by the Malfoys. What a different tale that would be.

Oberon #1 is set for release on February 6th, 2019. It will feature a standard cover by Milos Slavkovic and an incentive 1:10 cover by Marco Rudy.
