Bad Luck Chuck Sells Disaster On Demand This March

by James Ferguson

Some folks are superstitious, carrying around rabbits feet or horseshoes for luck, but what if you could buy it? That’s the setup for Bad Luck Chuck, a new four-issue mini-series debuting in March from Dark Horse Comics. Written by Lela Gwenn, illustrated by Matthew Dow Smith, colored by Kelly Fitzpatrick, and lettered by Frank Cvetkovic, the comic follows Charlene “Chuck” Manchester as she hires out the bad luck she’s been cursed with since birth to provide disaster where someone else can profit.

Chuck can get you a big insurance payout…for a price. Bad luck is unpredictable so it doesn’t always go as planned.  When Chuck gets trapped between a dissatisfied crime boss client, a cult leader, and a dogged insurance-fraud investigator, things get explosive. Everything that could go wrong does go wrong and only about half of it is by accident.

Bad Luck Chuck sounds a bit like Scarlet Witch’s powers, but there’s more than enough to set this book apart.  It’s described as a “twisted noir tale full of anti-heroes, smartass outlaws, and oddball villains”, and that has definitely piqued my interest.

Bad Luck Chuck #1 is scheduled for release on March 27th, 2019.
