Kodansha Comics Kicks Off 10th Anniversary With Akira Spotlight

Manga publisher Kodansha Comics is celebrating its 10th anniversary of publishing in English this year. To ring in the big one-oh, it will spotlight a different manga with series-themed exclusive content, special deals, prizes through sweepstakes and more. Kicking this off is the classic sci-fi epic, Akira by Katsuhiro Otomo.

As part of this celebration, Kodansha Comics will be conducting an in-depth interview with Otomo, delving into his inspirations and intentions with Akira. Be on the lookout for an Akira survey sweepstakes with a grand prize including the Akira box set, the Otomo: A Global Tribute art book, and additional goodies. Throughout the month of January, any purchase of one or more Akira-related books from Rightstuf will come with a free, original pin depicting Akira’s protagonist Kaneda leaning on his iconic motorcycle.

This is a pretty great title to start Kodansha’s anniversary celebration as it was released in its first month of publishing, back in October 2009. It has since been remastered in a 35th anniversary edition box set which one a couple of Eisner Awards.
