Charlene Amoia Joins Birds Of Prey Feature Film

How I Met Your Mother‘s Charlene Amoia will play mother to one of DC’s Birds of Prey.

Deadline reports the actor has joined the cast of Warner Bros. Pictures upcoming Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) as Maria Bertinelli, the mother of Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Helena Bertinelli — aka Huntress. In the character’s backstory, her mobbed-up family was slaughter as part of a gangland reprisal, leading her to become a vigilante. It is unclear if Amoia will play Maria in flashback or, somehow, survive the gruesome part of Helena’s origin.

The film itself will see Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) teaming up with Huntress and Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) to face off against Black Mask (Ewan McGregor), but is it possible the character is a cover for the Joker’s presence in the film. Black Mask was part of a Mistah J bait-and-switch in the Batman: Arkham Origins video game. The marketing campaign and early parts of the story heavily suggested Black Mask was Batman’s ultimate nemesis in the story, only for the Joker to appear halfway through and steal Black Mask’s thunder. Considering the fantabulous subtitle of Birds of Prey, we’re inclined to believe the Joker may show up at some point. Although, recent rumors suggest an appearance by Joker may be unlikely.

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) opens February 7th, 2020.
