Red Sonja & Vampirella Meet Betty & Veronica This May In New Dynamite/Archie Crossover

by Hannah Means Shannon

Dynamite has announced their first ever crossover with Archie Comics after a series of teases hit the web in the past couple of days.

Characters who are often known as the “Women of Dynamite” are teaming up with “Riverdale’s leading ladies” to solve a string of paranormal, unsolved murders. Dynamite tease: “When Drakulon and Hyrkania drop off their famous vampire hunter and sword-wielding barbarian into the small, sleepy town something is surely afoot.”

Amy Chu (Red Sonja, KISS: The End, Poison Ivy) returns to the Red Sonja character to write an “even more of a fish out of water tale than her fan favorite Worlds Away arc”. Joining her, on art, is Maria Laura Sanapo (DC Comics Bombshells, Charmed) who just drew the Vampirella Valentine’s Day Special.

Amy Chu reveals:

Archie was one of the few comics my Mom would buy for us now and then. We didn’t have a lot of money growing up so my mom wasn’t about to blow it all on comics. Whereas I’ve done quite a bit of Red Sonja to date, this is my first Archie book, and also Vampirella. Of course there’s the challenge of pulling it off, not every kind of story is suited for this kind of team up. What would bring these four women together? A mysterious spree of supernatural killings in Riverdale High, of course!

Covers will come to us from:

Fay Dalton (James Bond: Casino Royale, Nancy Drew & the Hardy Boys), Francesco Francavilla (Afterlife with Archie, Black Panther, Will Eisner’s The Spirit), Robert Hack (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Elvira Mistress of the Dark), Laura Braga (Blossoms 666, Harley & Ivy Meet Betty & Veronica, DC Comics Bombshells), Paulina Ganucheau (Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt, Mother Panic), and there will also be cosplay covers and covers from Archie artist Dan Parent.

Archie Comics Co-President Alex Segura says:

We’ve wanted to play in the sandbox with the Dynamite gang for some time, and I’m really happy the stars aligned on this one. Amy Chu’s story is a fun, energized romp that brings together our iconic duo of Betty and Veronica with Vampi and Red Sonja. Four badass ladies join forces for a crossover you won’t forget. What more could you want?

Red Sonja and Vampirella Meet Betty and Veronica #1 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ March 2019 Previews catalog and slated for release in May 2019. It will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus, and more.
