Jared Leto’s upcoming Morbius film will see him acting opposite Mad Men‘s Jared Harris.
Deadline reports the actor has joined the Sony production in an undisclosed role. Leto, meanwhile, toplines as the titular character created in 1971 by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane. In the comics, Dr. Micheal Morbius’s is the victim of a rare blood disorder whose research into the condition inadvertently gives him vampire-like powers and a craving for hemoglobin. Never finding a cure, he eventually found himself part of Marvel’s supernatural roster. The character was designed as a tragic and sympathetic antagonist for the Webhead — a recurring feature of Spider-Man comics — in his initial story and would go on to appear in a number of other titles before finally getting a book of his own in 1992.
Besides Harris and Leto, the film will also feature Matt Smith in another undisclosed role. Feel free to speculate, but keep in mind Sony’s Marvel IP is limited to characters closely associated with Spider-Man.
Morbius is slated for release on July 31st, 2020.
