Boom! Studios has shared an early preview of Rocko’s Modern Afterlife #1, the upcoming mini-series from writer Anthony Burch and artist Mattia Di Meo. It follows our favorite wallaby, Rocko as he tries to survive a zombie outbreak in his home of O-Town. The Rocko’s Modern Life comics have been incredible so far so I can’t wait to see what else the publisher has coming for these characters.
In an O-Town where everyone is glued to their cell phones, Heffer is making a living streaming video games online. The latest app lets you avoid all contact with everyone else without even looking up from your screen, creating a techno-utopia. Despite all this, there’s something fishy going on. Authorities call for a city-wide lockdown.
Rocko takes this time to relax and unplug from technology while the rest of the town seems to be going crazy. When the danger reaches his house, the newly zen wallaby has to choose between staying barricaded in his increasingly surrounded home or head out into the wasteland of mindless versions of his friends and neighbors.
Matthew Levine, Editor says:
Anthony and Mattia bring a fresh and hilarious take to everyone’s favorite neurotic wallaby. Rocko has to find the resolve to brave the undead and save his friends. Come for the mindless zombie hordes and stay for the social satire as Rocko and the rest of O-town find out exactly who they are when society breaks down around them.
Rocko’s Modern Afterlife #1 will feature a main cover by Ian McGinty and a pre-order variant by Joey McCormick. It will be published in partnership with Nickelodeon under Boom! Studios’ KaBoom! imprint, geared towards middle grade and younger readers. Look for it at your local comic shop on April 3rd, 2019.
