Cinemax Takes Viewers Back To Early Chinatown In ‘Warrior’

by Tito W. James

Set against the backdrop of San Francisco’s Chinatown in the aftermath of the Civil War, Warrior tells the story of a young martial arts prodigy, newly arrived from China, who finds himself caught up in the bloody Chinatown Tong wars.

Cinemax appears to be delivering a slick martial arts drama that’s far more grounded than AMC’s Into The Badlands. As a fan of period pieces and crime action, I’m pretty excited for this series.

Warrior shines a light on American history that is rarely ever explored. It is my hope that if the series does well, there will be a newfound respect for martial arts and a rise of Asian American film stars.

Look for Warrior on Cinemax on April 5th.
