During the latest stream for Mortal Kombat XI, NetherRealm Studios introduced Noob Saibot as part of the main cast. The icy ninja turned shadow-controlling assassin Bi-Han throws down with his brother, Cassie Cage, and Kung Lao before displaying his brand-new fatality.
But that wasn’t all. For C2E2, NRS brought another surprise for fans of the franchise: the first DLC character, Shang Tsung. In a neat shout out to the original film, the soul-stealing magician is being voiced by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. Though it’s unknown whether the character will play a major part in the game’s story mode (it’s possible though, given the time-traveling nature), it does seem they’ll play an important role. Shang Tsung seems to be the guide for the Krypt, which exists on Shang Tsung’s island. Long-time players will recognize the Krypt as the place where players can unlock fatalities, concept art, costumes and more. Generally the Krypt is more barebones compared to other offerings, but given they’re bothering to flesh it out and even have someone guarding it, perhaps this isn’t the case anymore and they’ll offer it a mini-story of its own.
Mortal Kombat XI is available April 23rd on PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
