Legendary Picks Up Image Comics’ Bitter Root For Feature Film Development

Legendary Entertainment is headed to the Jazz Age.

Deadline reports the company has acquired the feature film rights to Image Comics’s Bitter Root. The series by David F. Walker, Sanford Greene, and Chuck Brown revolves around a family of monster hunters in 1920s Harlem. Sadly, their star has faded in recent years, but they are the best hope against a new wave of monsters feeding off the prejudice, spite, and bigotry permeating New York City. The remaining members of the family must put aside their differences — and different philosophies of monster-hunting — to hold the line against the creatures.

Walker, Green and Brown will server as executive producers alongside Sean Owolo with Jon Silk and Disney Hall shepherding the project for Legendary.

It is currently unclear how quickly the film will be realized, but job one will be developing the script and finding an appropriate director.
