The last few issues of the Man of Steel’s flagship title have been all about Superboy, and Jon Kent’s return to Earth after a time-and-space spanning adventure. But after four issues of flashbacks, Superman and Superboy are thrust into the next phase of this epic saga in Superman #10.
Brian Michael Bendis, Ivan Reis, Brandon Peterson, Joe Prado, Oclair Albert, Alex Sinclair and Josh Reed move into the next phase of the Unity Saga in this issue.
(*Minor spoilers below!)
Jon finishes his story of his missing time, as Jor-El rescues him from the Crime Syndicate. However, he’s attacked by an army bearing a familiar sigil and Jon is teleported to Earth. This takes the Man of Steel and Kid of Steel forward to their next adventure, and all out war!
This issue is mostly transition, wrapping up Superboy’s adventure and moving the pieces into place for the cliffhanger ending. However, Bendis makes it all incredibly exciting and engaging. He writes this family unit extremely well especially, showing us how much Clark, Lois and Jon love each other, before throwing the readers into the next epic adventure.
Reis and Peterson both do great work. Reis, with Prado and Albert’s inks, is able to convey the connection between our protagonists so well, though Albert’s inks do add some unnecessary crosshatching on his pages. Meanwhile, Peterson loosens up quite a bit, with the best pages he’d done so far in this run, with an exciting chase through his pages.
The Man of Steel is in great hands, and headed towards an exciting wrap up to this mega-story.
