John Cena may be joining Task Force X.

Variety reports the actor is in talks to join the cast of Warner Bros. Pictures The Suicide Squad. The quasi-sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad features returning cast members Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney and Viola Davis as Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang and Amanda Waller. It will also feature Idris Elba in an as-yet undisclosed role. Originally set to replace Will Smith as Deadshot, all involved parties decided to keep the character on the bench should Smith be inclined to return in the future. Cena’s role is also unknown, but a rumored list of potential squad members includes characters like Ratcatcher, Polka-Dot Man, Peacekeeper, and King Shark, Cena will have plenty of options should he take on the part.

The film will be directed by James Gunn, whom Warner Bros. snapped up during his brief expulsion from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Because of this, he will make The Suicide Squad first.

The Suicide Squad opens on August 6th, 2021.
