Tommy Gun Wizards: Magic Meets The Mob With Christian Ward & Sami Kivelä

by Richard Bruton

Advance notice now for a brand-new Dark Horse 4-issue series, mixing magic and a totally different sort of mob!

Tommy Gun Wizards is set in an alternate 1930s Chicago, complete with Eliot Ness and his team of Untouchables going up against mobster Al Capone. Except there’s one huge difference here… the mob doesn’t trade in ilicit booze here, instead they trade in magic!

Everything ties into Lick, the illegal drug that grants magical powers to anyone taking it. Under Lick, ordinary men turn into monsters, mobsters become powerful wizards, and it’s all down to Eliot Ness and his Untouchables to uncover the terrible secrets behind it all.

The new series, debuting in August from Dark Horse, comes from Christian Ward, writing his first comic series after hugely successful runs as artist on Invisible Kingdom and ODY-C. Joining Ward on Tommy Gun Wizards is artist Sami Kivelä (Abbott, Beautiful Canvas) with colors from Ward in collaboration with Dee Cunniffe (ODY-C, Redneck). Each issue will also feature backup stories written and drawn by Ward.

We’ll have more on this incredibly promising new series as soon as we get it, but we’ve already marked it down on our list of comics to watch out for.

In the meantime, here are a couple of famous names, who’ve garnered an early look at the series… they seem to like it…

Ward and Kivelä are bootleg magicians, dealing us the strong stuff.

This is what comics do best—a larger than life concept perfectly rendered into a believable world. Brilliant
