Lex Luthor Monologues In A Preview Of The Supergirl Season Finale

by Erik Amaya

One episode of Supergirl remains for the season. And if this preview of the finale is any indication, Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer) will find himself caught up in a nice little monologue. He’s a comic book villain, so it’s sort of traditional. Will he get away with his plan to become a “true” American hero or will Kara (Melissa Benoist) find a way to foil his dastardly deeds?

Of course, lying to the American people for fun and profit is a little more than dastardly, but it worked out well in terms of the Ben Lockwood (Sam Witwer) plot. He finally knows he’s a patsy and it only cost him everything. That horrifying realization was the best second best bit of acting from Witwer this entire year. The best, though, was his impression of Brainy (Jess Rath).

Oh, poor Brainy. The idea that Brainiac is lurking in all of his descendants is really great. It never really happened in any of the Legion of Superheroes comics I ever read, but it is a great tension to play with. Also, it gave Rath a chance to give his character another dimension. His Brainiac voice is such a chilling alteration of Brainy’s earned warmth. On the one hand, he would make an excellent villain next year, but on the other, Brainy should be saved.

Supergirl airs Sundays on The CW.
