While it may be some time before HBO returns to Westeros with its Game of Thrones prequel, it will have a new prestige fantasy series to offer subscribers with its adaptation of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials. Co-produced with the BBC, it features actors like Logan‘s Dafne Keen, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ruth Wilson and James McAvoy. And as seen from this new teaser, it will be a full-throated adaptation with child abductions, warrior polar bears, and it would seem, a confrontation with the Church. All of which means a war is brewing on an alternate Earth.
The series will tell the tale of two children who grow up while journeying across parallel worlds, inevitably encountering our own along the way, and learning the Biblical rebellion in Eden may have set humanity on the course to greatness. Keen plays Lyra, one of the orphans, while Miranda plays adventurer Lee Scoresby. McAvoy plays Lyra’s father Lord Asriel, while Wilson plays Marisa Coulter. Clarke Peters and Ariyon Bakare also appear.
His Dark Materials joins the HBO line-up soon.
