Team17 Announces ‘Yooka-Laylee And The Impossible Lair’

by Sage Ashford

Team 17 and the developers at Playtonic games have announced a sequel to the 3D platformer Yooka-Laylee, in “Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair”, a 2D platforming adventure game.  Chameleon Yooka and his bat partner Laylee return, going through side-scrolling levels to help save Queen Phoebee’s Royal Beettallion Guard.  Though the main levels involve 2D side-scrolling, the over world where Yooka and Laylee travel from stage to stage instead involves 3D top-down gaming and puzzle solving.

Playtonic of course is a team of former Rare developers, and Yooka-Laylee is intended to be a spiritual successor to their Nintendo 64 game, Banjo-Kazooie.   The original game was created after a successful Kickstarter, and released in 2017.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair will release later in 2019 for PlayStation 4, Microsoft Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Steam.
