It’s a good day to be an Earper.
IDW Entertainment, SEVEN24 Films, Space and Syfy announced earlier today that Wynonna Earp has been greenlit to start production for its fourth season. The series, based on the comic book by Beau Smith and various artists, tells the tale of Wyatt Earp’s descendant Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano) and her eclectic gaggle of family and friends who fight to keep their hometown of Purgatory safe from monsters, demons, and the occasional decadent vampire. The series, which also stars Tim Rozon, Dominique Provost-Chalkley and Katherine Barrell, has been a cult hit since it first debuted on Syfy (it airs on Space in Canada) in 2016, attracting a loyal following known as Earpers.
The group was thrilled when cast and crew announced they would be returning for a fourth season at Comic-Con International: San Diego last year, but when production was due to start, details emerged about financial troubles behind the scenes. These details also indicated Syfy wanted a fifth season as well once the money was secured.
Joining IDW and SEVEN24 in producing the new season is Cineflix Studios, who will co-produce and handle international distribution of the series outside North America.
“We are absolutely thrilled that we get to make more Wynonna Earp, and are grateful to our networks and partners for working hard to ensure we can,” said Emily Andras, Showrunner and Executive Producer. “This is an enormous testament to our passionate and fierce fans, the Earpers, who remind us every day how to fight like hell for the things you love with wit, ferocity and kindness.”
SEVEN24’s Jordy Randall and Tom Cox, in addition to Cineflix’s Peter Emerson and Brett Burlock, serve as Executive Producers along with Todd Berger and Rick Jacobs.
We’re huge fans of the series, as you can tell from our weekly coverage of Seasons 2 and 3, and delighted to know things finally worked out for all involved. Wynonna Earp will resume production later this year.
