David Haller (Dan Stevens) is inching ever closer to his plan to prevent Amahl Farouk (Navid Negahban) from ruining his life. It still involves time travel, and though he’s finally been introduced to the real risk of meddling with time, he is still determined to change the past. There will be consequences for everyone, of course. And as this preview of next week’s episode suggests, some of the Division 3 crew may not make it out alive. But at least Syd (Rachel Keller) is still around to ask him if he killed everybody.
His response does not fill us with hope.
The Time Eaters, and the realization of their space outside of time, is another wonderful addition to the series iconography. The creatures resemble the Blue Meanies of Yellow Submarine, which has to be intentional. And the trick of using still photos to express a place without time was a brilliant touch. But the absolute best moment occurred when Syd had a heart-to-heart with her younger self. It may have just been a Time Eater eating part of her past, but it put so many things into focus for the character. Also, it is the most time we’ve spent with Syd all year. Keller has always been the show’s secret weapon, but scenes like this prove she should be the lead of something now that Legion has wrapped. Meanwhile, we await Syd’s confrontation with David next week.
Legion airs Mondays on FX.
