The second Walking Dead spinoff still lacks for a name, but it has a cast. The group of young actors assembled for an interesting teaser in support of the new series. They talk about the stories we haven’t seen on The Walking Dead or Fear the Walking Dead and how their characters grew up in those unseen tales. But as they choose to walk away from safety, the actors promise viewers a new world within The Walking Dead.
Actors Alexa Mansour, Nicolas Cantu, Hal Cumpston, Annet Mahendru, and Aliyah Royale will lead the forthcoming series. Created by TWD‘s overall creative director Scott Gimple and frequent TWD writer Matt Negrete, the still untitled program will focus on two young women coming of age in the walker apocalypse with no memory of the world before. According to the official description, this new generation will still face familiar challenges as “some will become heroes. Some will become villains.” But the series will see them eventually “grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.” A sort of Walking Dead High, it would seem.
Mansour’s character, one of the two female leads, is said to be “a good-natured rule breaker who lives for today. She is likable and funny on the outside but sad on the inside.” Cantu will play an old sold with a black belt in karate while Cumptson’s character is described as loner who hates the fact he scares people.
In a statement back in April, Gimple said the series will see The Walking Dead franchise “taking our first step into an even larger world,” setting up the message of this teaser.
That larger world also includes a number of feature films staring Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes and the continuing events of The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead. AMC is betting big on the brand continuing to do well for them, with a ten-year roadmap lined out.
The third Walking Dead series is expected to debut in spring of 2020.
