After years of anticipation, Marvel fans received their first look at Square Enix’s “Avengers Project” game this E3. But it was only a short glimpse, as Marvel saved the full eighteen minute video for people who were in attendance at E3. But while Square-Enix recently revealed the full version of this at Gamescom, they also snuck a bit of gameplay from future stages onto the show floor.
This was discovered by the YouTuber Jorraptor, who noticed that the thirty second clips of gameplay they were showing for Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, Hulk, and Iron Man were actually new. Each clip shows a brief bio of the hero, then glimpses some looks at alternate costumes, and ends with a look at more of the hero’s techniques.
Each separate clip seems to take place in a different area than we’ve seen up until now, but that makes sense. The E3/SDCC gameplay is from the game’s tutorial level, before things open up. Away from the destroyed bridge stage, we get a look at more open levels–from a snowy base area to a metropolitan city. Square-Enix and Crystal Dynamics have already claimed that we’ve only gotten a small look at what’s a very large game, with players getting to play not only as the Avengers shown here but additional ones. Kamala Khan has been hinted as a major character, and Ant-Man has already been teased as well.
Marvel’s Avengers will be available for Stadia, PlayStation 4, Xbox, and PC, May 15th, 2020.
