The Gifted’s Elena Satine Joins Netflix’s Adaptation Of Cowboy Bebop

John Cho’s Spike Spiegel finally has his Julia.

Deadline reports The Gifted‘s Elena Satine will play the Martian songbird in Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop. She joins a cast which includes Cho, Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black, Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine and Alex Hassel as Spike’s archrival — and Julia’s current squeeze — Vicious.

We’re still waiting word on who will play Radical Ed and lovable pup Ein.

Debuting in 1998, the original Cowboy Bebop came to the United States just as interest in Japanese animation was boiling over from its niche beginnings in the 1980s to the major business it is today. With its jazz soundtrack, limited run, and cutting edge style, the show became a hit on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block and led to many new fans seeking out more anime. The mix of sci-fi trappings and 1940s gangster tropes also inspired Joss Whedon to mash genres with 2001’s Firefly.

Thor: Ragnarok‘s Christopher Yost will write the first episode and original series director Shinichiro Watanabe will serve as a consultant. Andre Nemec, Josh Appelbaum, Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg will be the program’s executive producers and showrunners.
