After a nice, long break, The Umbrella Academy is getting ready for its second season.
TVLine reports Yusuf Gatewood, Marin Ireland, and Ritu Arya will be joining returning cast members Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher and Justin H. Min. The latter group plays an adoptive family of super-powered people who function as well as any family bonded by blood. In the first season, Gallagher’s Five returned from a post-Apocalyptic hellscape to prevent the end of the world. As his brothers and sisters dealt with various internal problems, they eventually discovered their sister Vanya (Page) was the source of the destruction. The season ended on a cliffhanger as Five seemingly transported all of them back to their teen years.
For readers of the comic book, the season mashed the first two Umbrella Academy comic series into one tale, meaning the television show is more or less off book at this point.
In year 2, Gatewood will play Raymond, described as “a born leader with the smarts, gravitas and confidence to never have to prove it to anyone,” he is a also a devoted husband with a disarming demeanor. And if these benevolent descriptions sound sinister, then you’re definitely a fan of Umbrella Academy. Ireland will play Sissy, a woman who married young, but suddenly finds a host of new opportunities available to her. Arya will fill the role of Lila, a woman who can be just about anything the situation demands. The character description continues the strange echoes between Umbrella Academy and Doom Patrol as Lila sounds a lot like Crazy Jane. But as Umbrella Academy co-creator Gerard Way was inspired by the Doom Patrol comic and ultimately wrote that series himself, these synchronicities are bound to happen.
It is unclear when the series will return to Netflix, but expect it sometime in 2020.
