First Look: Smile Down The Runway Promo Video

by Sage Ashford

The first trailer has been revealed for the upcoming anime series Smile Down the Runway. The story, based on the manga from Kotoba Inoya, follows Fujito Chiyuki, a young woman with dreams of becoming a fashion model. Her father even runs a small modeling agency known as Mille Neige.   Her one problem is that she seems to be too short to become a professional model.

One day, Chiyuki meets Tsumura Ikuto, a classmate of hers with an incredible gift for designing fashionable clothes.  Though both were about to be forced to give up their dreams, together they may have a chance to achieve what they thought was impossible.

Smile Down the Runway is being directed by Nobuyoshi Nagayama, a director responsible for Are You Lost and Happy Sugar Life.  Meanwhile, series composition is being done by Touko Machida, who’s worked on a litany of series from Hamatora to Happy Sugar Life to Dramatical Murder.    The animation studio will be Ezo’la, largely responsible for series both Nagayama and Machida have worked on in Happy Sugar Life and Are You Lost?

Though Smile Down the Runway isn’t my thing, it’s great to see shonen as a genre isn’t limited to just battle series, even if those are what I enjoy the most.  Also, anything that helps one of the non-WSJ magazines (this time, Weekly Shonen Magazine) have a higher profile is great.
