While Ghost Rider may have evaporated into TV ashes, Hulu is proving its commitment to Marvel Television by announcing its Helstrom cast.
Deadline reports Homeland vet Elizabeth Marvel will headline the series as Victoria Helstrom, an institutionalized woman who wants to reunite with her children. Joining her are Tom Austen and Sydney Lemmon as Daimon Helstrom and Ana Helstrom, a pair of twins who “pursue the world’s vilest of the vile.” Oh, they will also confront some drama about their infernal family legacy. Ariana Guerra, Robert Wisdom, June Carryl, and Alain Uy will also appear in the 10-episode first season.
The series takes the place of Ghost Rider as Marvel Television and Hulu’s first foray into supernatural live action based on Marvel Comics characters. Back in August, Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb was bullish about Ghost Rider offering fans an entry point into a whole range of programs based around the comic book company’s ghostly, demonic, and horror-tinged concepts. Then, late last month, Hulu pulled the plug on the series, which was to star Gabriel Luna — reprising his role as the Robbie Reyes Ghost Rider from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. And thanks to rumors suggesting Marvel Studios may also have plans for the Johnny Blaze version of the character, it seems the Rider may have just been snatched from Marvel TV’s purview.
It is unclear if the wider plans for Marvel horror shows on Hulu will materialize, but expect at least one episode of Helstrom to focus on a spinoff-worthy comic like Werewolf by Night.
Helstrom will debut sometime in 2020 on Hulu.
