Like most of our comic book-based shows, Stumptown is taking next week off. But when it returns, Dex (Cobie Smulders) plans a friendsgiving event for the handful of people she manages not to annoy. But things may go awry when Grey (Jake Johnson) brings Liz (Monica Barbaro) and Hoffman (Micheal Ealy) shows up as Dex’s date. Will the two couples explode into a Thanksgiving style drama? Or will they all keep it contained for Ansel’s (Cole Sibus) sake?
If we’re talking honestly, we’re currently supporting the pairings we’ve seen. Liz seems like a wonderful match with Grey — Barbaro and Johnson had amazing chemistry from the get go — and while Hoffman will likely get burned in the end, he compliments Dex wonderfully. Also, considering how offbeat this show is, it would be interesting to see everyone getting along. Well, after a drunken outburst, of course.
And speaking of the show’s offbeat elements, we’re here for Cosgrove (Camryn Manheim) and Tookie (Adrian Martinez). Whether it remains a friendship or develops into something else (despite both characters being married), they need to share scenes more often. The positive energy radiating off of them is electric and offsets Dex’s cynicism in a way no one else has accomplished so far. Also, we hope Fiona X (Ioanna Gika) returns every so often. The character offers Dex such a tantalizing escape from her troubles even if she was able to say no this time around.
Stumptown airs Wednesdays on ABC.
