It’s been far too long since we spent time with the Doctor. And according to this trailer for the upcoming 12th season, we will have to wait a little longer as the TARDIS is scheduled to rematerialize in “early 2020.” Once it does, though, the Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) will face off against Judoon, Racnoss, and one of her oldest enemies — The Cybermen. But as she says in the preview, something is coming for her. Are the Time Lords up to their old tricks?
Returning alongside Whittaker are Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole, and Mandip Gill as her team of companions Graham O’Brien, Ryan Sinclair, and Yasmin Khan. Although, as last season made pains to establish, they are also her friends and, from this trailer, her “fam” at last.
Guest stars include Stephen Fry, Lenny Henry, Robert Glenister and Goran Višnjić. And, reportedly, the season will see Team TARDIS encountering Mary Shelley in their travels.
Curiously, it is unclear if the show will make its traditional holiday visit. For much of the 21st Century, fans enjoyed a Doctor Who Christmas special, but this changed to a New Year’s Day episode earlier this year. Many assumed the season might begin with the holiday show, but it now seems Doctor Who may skip it entirely.
Doctor Who returns in early 2020.
