Black Lightning Faces His Own Powers In A Preview Of Next Week’s Show

by Erik Amaya

Black Lightning (Cress Williams) may be in an uneasy alliance with the Resistance, but his doubts about their methods mean little to the ASA. They’re deploying Painkiller (Jordan Calloway) to deal with him and Braxton is back to mimic Jefferson’s powers. Was he the phantom Black Lightning Tobias (Marvin “Krondon” Jones III) encountered a few weeks back?

Meanwhile, how many more times are Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Grace (Chantal Thuy) going to separate like this? There is the Occupation, granted, but it seems like the show will forever be gunshy about them being in a committed relationship across the long term. Anissa’s “goodbye” sounded so final despite Williams telling us a few weeks back that they are meant to be a real couple this year. Then again, she also mentioned the show is a drama at its heart and you cannot have happy couples in that format — see also Jefferson and Lynn (Christine Adams).

Speaking of Lynn: will saving Khalil be the last things she does? It definitely seems like she’s on a collision course with the ASA and her Greenlight addiction. And it’s getting to be the time when a major cast member leaves the mortal plane. Will she be the one?

Black Lightning airs Mondays on The CW.
