DC Comics have announced a 100 page Super Spectacular which seems to suggest DC Comisc ain’t done with celebrating Batman’s 80th anniversary year. But no, it’s a comic book blow-out celebrating Batman’s chum and partner, Robin the Boy Wonder who turns 80 himself in 2020.
Due to be released on March 11th 2020, this anniversary special will repeat the success of recent anniversary specials by including variant covers that span the 8 decades Dick Grayson has been around for, even if he hasn’t been Robin since 1984 since The New Teen Titans’ class ‘Judas Contract’ storyline in which Grayson took on the persona of Nightwing. But, still, this is something to celebrate, right?
While there’s no sight of these variant covers, here’s the artistic teams on each one:
- 1940’s variant cover by Jim Lee and Scott Williams
- 1950’s variant cover by Julian Totino Tedesco
- 1960’s variant cover by Dustin Nguyen
- 1970’s variant cover by Kaare Andrews
- 1980’s variant cover by Frank Miller
- 1990’s variant cover by Jim Cheung
- 2000’s variant cover by Derrick Chew
- 2010’s variant cover by Yasmine Putri
Robin 80thAnniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular will have, amongst others, the likes of Marv Wolfman, Tom Grummett, Chuck Dixon, Scott McDaniel, Devin Grayson, Dan Jurgens, Norm Rapmund, Tim Seeley, Tom King and Mikel Janin, James Tynion IV, Peter J. Tomasi, Judd Winick and others contributing tales that will include the other people who’ve donned the Robin identity; Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown and Damian Wayne. Good to see they all get a look in.
The Robin 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular #1 is a prestige format comic book retailing for $9.99 and available at local comic retailers and digital retailers on March 11, 2020.
Looks like another big year for the Bat and his family. And we’ll be right here informing you of other ways in which DC Comics will be celebrating too.
