A New Potential Arrow Series Glimpsed In A Preview Of Next Week’s Show

by Erik Amaya

Two episodes of Arrow remain. And while the episode airing on 1/28 will be the series finale, next week’s is a glimpse into a potential new series — Green Arrow and the Canaries. Katherine McNamara stars as Mia Queen. From the preview, we get the impression she does not remember the Crisis or her life in the rougher parts of Star City 2040. But when Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) and Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy) appear with knowledge of her Pre-Crisis existence and abilities, Mia has the chance to become someone else. Some thing else.

And if this preview feels like a different show, that’s because it is. The episode is literally a backdoor pilot — that is, an episode for a potential series produced and aired as part of an existing series. Sure, Green Arrow has a lot of direct ties to Arrow, but its future is entirely dependent on how this episode is received. Will Mia’s journey keep viewers coming back week after week? Some didn’t think Arrow would work, so maybe this new series has a chance.

Arrow airs Tuesdays on The CW.
