While set in Portland, Oregon, much of Stumptown‘s production takes place in Los Angeles — and it seem the show will finally take advantage of that by sending Dex (Cobie Smulders) and Grey (Jake Johnson) to Hollywood. She is on the hunt for a stolen script while he is along for the ride. Meanwhile, Ansel (Cole Sibus) and Tookie (Adrian Martinez) host an ill-advised birthday party at The Bad Alibi. Will both pairs’ stories end in flames?
It’s nice to see Tookie finally getting more involved with the show. Ending up at the bar seemed like the plan ages ago, but maybe that early episode was a test run for this. As Grey is fond of saying, he’s weird. But it’s the sort of weirdness the show needs in its primary set.
Also, we continue to appreciate the show skewing more toward episodic material over a heavily serialized story and the way the cases relate to Dex’s life. But the constant mention of her delinquent parents seems to be indicating a big season finale reveal. Will Dex need to deal with them before she can really move on?
Stumptown airs Wednesdays on ABC.
