An Experimental Fantasy Film: ‘The Green Knight’ First Trailer

by Tito W. James

A24 is known for their offbeat and often experimental films such as Ex Machina and Hereditary. Their latest film titled The Green Knight, tells the story of King Arthur’s nephew, Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), and is based on the Medieval poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight in which a young and cocky knight takes on a Christmas Day challenge at Camelot, only to fid that the consequences of this challenge take him on a spiritual and geographical journey that last a year and a day in the original.

The trailer harkens back to an earlier style of experimental filmmaking that utilizes practical effects. This is a wonderful alternative to the contemporary blockbuster and shows that you don’t need a big budget to wow your audience.

Look for The Green Knight in theaters May 29, 2020.
