Stumptown is taking next week off. But when it returns, Dex (Cobie Smulders) and Grey (Jake Johnson) continue their visit to Hollywood with some extra sexual tension. Will it lead to something neither is willing to admit?
Meanwhile, the mystery regarding Dex’s parents is getting more and more important. And even if her aunt was lost in her Alzheimer’s, she did offer one key clue: it was “better” no one knew where they went. That certainly sounds like they were in trouble. Which leaves us with good old MS-13. The series deleted that plot when it adapted the first Stumptown comic book into a series — something Greg Rucka mentioned to us was for the best — but is it possible Dex’s parents had some dealings with them and ran when the heat got too intense?
It’s bigger stakes than we’ve seen from the series so far, but even the most episodic of crime shows from the 1970s and 80s had runners like that; even if they stopped acknowledging them. And since the romantic triangle seems to be solved, giving Dex a bigger criminal enterprise to deal with may be the show’s next major conflict.
Stumptown airs Wednesdays on ABC.
