UPDATE: Dan DiDio Departs DC Comics

Call it a Crisis level event.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, DC Comics co-publisher Dan DiDio is no longer with the company. The wording suggests this was all rather sudden, possibly involuntary, and that any publishing initiatives he spearheaded for the coming months may not be happening as envisioned.
DiDio first arrived at DC in 2002 as a vice president editorial with an emphasis in creating a better relationship between DC and Warner Bros. Pictures. He also took over the Superboy title at the time, writing issues #94-#100. He eventually moved into an executive role, and became publisher alongside Jim Lee in February of 2010. He took an active part in developing stories and the direction of the superhero line. Initiatives in his time included 52, Infinite Crisis, and the multiverse re-defining New 52. Much of that latter initiative’s impact was scaled back with 2016’s Rebirth and an upcoming series of one-shorts intended to place the Justice Society of America back into the company’s mainline history. It is unclear if these events will continue beyond the material already slated for release. Prior to his time at DC Comics, DiDio worked on television series like ReBoot.
Update: According to DC, DiDio has indeed left the company, but could offer no further comment.
On Twitter, many current DC writers praised DiDio for his efforts to create the 21st Century DC Comics universe while others (we see you Rob Liefeld) consider his departure “the best outcome.” Often controversial, but always entertaining at conventions and media events, DiDio was the sort of boisterous champion of comics you wanted to see even if some of his creative ideas alienated you as soon you have a moment to think about them. And while his departure may have a Crisis level effect on the company, DC always seems to do well in such situations.
