Samurai Jack Returns In New Video Game ‘Battle Through Time.’

by Tito W. James

Samurai Jack is one of the most beloved cartoons from the golden age of Cartoon Network. It’s commitment to cinematic pacing, badass action, and intricate artistry stand a cut above most contemporary cartoons. Now Jack’s saga continues in Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time.

The samurai called Jack has had several video games already including flash games on the Cartoon Network website and his own PS2 game titled The Shadow of Aku. While I do have a twinge of nostalgia for these old games I’m glad to see Jack being updated for the PS4.

The trailer appears to be following the world of the show more closely with levels themed after the Scotsman episode and the first episode of season five. Perhaps Battle Through Time will be a “greatest hits” package retelling Jack’s best episodes in video game form.

While tie-in video games have typically been “hit or miss,” I have hopes for Battle Through Time. Jack’s old games were really fun for their time and the game industry could use a slick hack and slash action platformer with colorful stylized art.
