Getting Guy (Luke Cook) to sign with Lacy’s was a big career win for Katy (Lucy Hale), but to say this week’s episode was easy on her would be a lie. And it’s not looking much better in the preview for next week’s episode. Whether it’s her break-up with K.O. (Zane Holtz) that’s stirred up these feelings about her mother, or life in general, it looks like Katy is in for another emotionally draining hour.
One small conciliation: it looks like we’re going to be getting another musical number! While we’ve seen Jorge (Jonny Beauchamp) and Josie (Ashleigh Murray) sing before in pursuit of their dreams, this week’s sing-along felt much closer to musical territory and given the void left behind at the CW by Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (and no, Riverdale’s annual school musical doesn’t count), maybe Katy Keene should consider becoming a musical show.
Also developing nicely: Josie’s relationship with the Cabots. Any family that can give the Blossoms a run for their money is worth watching, and the reveal that Alex (Lucien Laviscount) and Alexandra (Camilla Hyde) were high school sweethearts before they became stepsiblings is pure drama.
Katy Keene airs Thursdays on The CW.
