‘Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!’ First Impressions

by Tito W. James

The Masaaki Yuasa renaissance continues with studio Science Saru’s latest anime Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! Based on the manga of the same name by Sumito Oowara, Eizouken follows the journey of three girls who are trying to create their own anime.

The show follows a “slice of life” format with experimental animation sequences illustrating the girls’ imaginations. The show is oozing with charm, heart, and Yuasa’s off-kilter creativity.

Anime is a medium that often rewards trends and stylistic homogeneity, therefore it’s great to see work from a visionary like Yuasa; who’s been able to maintain a unique voice. Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! is a wonderful reminder of how weird and fun anime can be.

Also be sure to check out the music video for Eizouken’s opening theme, “Easy Breezy.”

You can watch Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! right now on Crunchyroll.
