Josie (Ashleigh Murray) was just talking about her mom (Robin Givens). Now it looks like she’s dropping by for a visit, but has she come around to Josie’s choice to live in New York? Jorge’s mom (Daphne Rubin-Vega) at least looks like she’s embracing Ginger Lopez (Jonny Beauchamp), and she’ll need that support if she wants to be crowned the next Miss Washington Heights. That’s right – if this week’s episode felt a bit like Project Runway (right down to the reference to Mood Fabrics), next week’s promo promises something closer to RuPaul’s Drag Race, with Ginger entering a drag pageant.
To go back to this week’s Katy Keene, though, the Polar Vortex allowed the show to save on location shooting and amp up the drama at the same time. There’s nothing like tension to make a space feel small, and unable to do much storming off, thanks to the weather, Katy (Lucy Hale) and her friends were forced to carry their fights to completion indoors as they waited for the vortex to break. This episode was a good reminder that while Josie is the character most viewers know best because of Riverdale, the opposite is true for her roommates at the apartment. Her arrival’s been a breeze, compared to K.O.’s (Zane Holtz), but there still had to be some conflict eventually.
Katy Keene airs Thursdays on The CW.
