‘Nova’ Writer Jeff Loveness Joins ‘Ant-Man 3’ Team

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is on a short-term pause, future planning continues.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rick and Morty writer/producer — and writer of the 2017 Nova comic book series — Jeff Loveness has joined the Ant-Man 3 team. He will write the script for returning director Peyton Reed. Details are, of course, S.H.I.E.L.D. secrets, but one presumes the film will address at least some of the trouble Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and the Pym family face as they try to reintegrate into the post-Snap reality. And, y’know, learn about whatever Luis (Micheal Peña) has been up to all this time. Well, presuming he and co-stars Evangeline Lilly, Micheal Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer return for the third installment in the series.

Of course, Marvel Studios just reshaped its release calendar in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, meaning the film will likely not begin production until 2022 with a 2023 release date and a firm Phase 5 setting. Disney has set aside several release dates for Marvel that year which have yet to be claimed.

But at least the news confirms the studio is still planning for the future, even if so much outside of the MCU feels so uncertain. That’s worth something this Friday evening.
