Russian Superhero Red Guardian Enters ‘Marvel Contest of Champions’

by Gary Catig

We previously announced that Red Guardian would be entering Marvel Contest of Champions alongside a new version of Black Widow. As of today, the character is now available on the popular mobile game and Kabam has provided more background on the Russian superhero.

Alexei Shostakov was one of the Soviet Union’s most acclaimed pilots, crediting them with air supremacy over the skies of Stalingrad and Kursk during World War II and thus granting him national recognition. As the Cold War flared, Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev determined the Soviet Union needed its own equivalent to Captain America and seeing Shostakov’s popularity, chose him to fill that role. The KGB then faked his death, training him in secret and turning him into a master of hand-to-hand combat and a highly skilled athlete.

As has happened with other new fighters, two new videos go deeper into the character. First, a look at his fighting style:

Then you can take a closer look at his special moves. Also, check out his Champion spotlight to learn about his abilities, history, and strengths.

Though the Black Widow film is delayed until November 8, you can at least utilize Champions inspired from the film now.
